Bobby Jones Golf Course has won the “Best in Atlanta Real Estate 2021 Renovation Award” by Atlanta Business Chronicle.
The golf course’s renovation was completed in 2020 and has transformed the course into the home of golf in Georgia.
The improvement includes a 9-hole reversible golf course, a parking garage, new clubhouse, and a signalized intersection for a new entrance off Northside Drive. Also included is the 23,241 square foot Murray Golf House containing Boone’s Restaurant, Georgia Golf Hall of Fame and the pro shop. The renovation included 6 surface tennis courts, and 6 tennis courts on the upper level of the 288-space parking deck supplementing the existing 12 courts at the adjacent Bitsy Grant Tennis Center, and a maintenance and cart storage building.
LONG provided the site design/civil engineering that included pedestrian/cart paths linking the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center, parking deck/tennis courts, Murray Golf House, practice facilities and golf course. LONG also designed the site stormwater management measures that included a micro-pool stormwater management facility, a bioretention area, and a bioslope filter.
Three additional bridges were required at the pedestrian/cart paths. LONG was responsible for determining each bridge’s dimensions based on stream width, developed bridge profiles and performed the hydraulic analysis utilizing HEC-RAS to analyze the impact of these bridges on flood levels, provided bridge scour prevention design and coordinated extensively with The PATH Foundation for their path system that encircles the golf course.
We are honored to see one of our projects being recognized by the by Atlanta Business Chronicle.

LONG is proud to receive the honor of the “2022 Internship Program Employer of the Year”, on behalf of the Georgia Tech Career Center.
Our VP of Civil Site Design, Andrew Pankopp, PE, LEED AP, shared that over many years, “Long Engineering has had the pleasure of working with Georgia Tech’s Career Center and Georgia Tech students through LONG’s internship program. With each semester, we are impressed by the capabilities and professionalism of our GT internship staff and truly value their involvement in our projects and day-to-day engineering tasks.
In many occurrences, we have also had the pleasure of transitioning these internship positions into full-time employment upon graduation, building upon the tasks and responsibilities learned, and acting as important members of the Long Engineering Team.”
Mr. Pankopp notes with confidence that inclusion in the Georgia Tech’s Career Center Internship program has contributed to the successes of Long Engineering, furthered the development of our engineering staff, and has acted as a powerful recruitment opportunity. LONG looks forward to the continued relationship and future opportunities with Georgia Tech’s Career Center and Georgia Tech students.
It’s official – the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design is one of the greenest buildings in the world!
The Georgia Institute of Technology announced on Earth Day 2021 that The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design earned Living Building Challenge certification, the world’s most ambitious and holistic green building achievement. LONG was proud to provide the civil engineering services on this $30M, eco-friendly project.
The Kendeda Building is among the greenest in the world for being “net positive” with its use of energy and water. In other words, the Kendeda Building generates more energy and captures more water than it uses.
The “Living Building” certification came after a 12-month performance period, where the building generated 225 percent of the energy needed to power all of its electrical systems from solar panels on its roof. It also collected, treated, and infiltrated 15 times the amount of water needed for building functions. It had to meet all seven “petals” in the Living Building Challenge – Place; Water; Energy; Health and Happiness; Materials; Equity and Beauty.

Long Engineering provided civil engineering design services on The Savannah Cultural Arts Center, which was recently honored by the “Georgia Association of the American Institute of Architects” during their annual statewide 2020 design awards competition. Out of more than 140 entrants from across the state, this notable project was selected as a top award for design excellence. We are proud to have been included on Gunn Meyerhoff Shay’s team, and given an opportunity to play a valuable role.
The center has also received the Honor Award from the South Georgia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
Located at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and Oglethorpe Avenue, the Savannah Cultural Arts Center is a place where working artists and students of all ages can interact and participate in a love for the visual and performing arts. Completed in 2019, this approximately 42,000 SF facility includes a 400-seat performance hall, a black box theater, studios for dance and the arts, an art exhibit gallery, an outdoor performance space, and a partially restored Elbert Square.
