Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design at Georgia Tech received ENR Southeast’s 2020 Best Green Project Award!

The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design recently received the ENR Southeast’s 2020 Best Green Project Award! LONG was a proud member of Lord Aeck Sargent‘s team, providing civil engineering services for this ambitious green infrastructure project on Georgia Tech’s campus that was a Project of the Year finalist.

Embracing the most rigorous building performance standards in the world, the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design is a multi-disciplinary building intent on becoming the first Living Building Challenge certified facility in the Southeast.

This 47,000 s.f. building uses just one-third the energy of a similar building, generates more electricity than it uses on an annual basis from solar panels on its roof, and captures and treats rainwater for all purposes, including drinking. Nearly everything removed during construction was salvaged, recycled, or turned into another usable product. The project will serve as a living educational environment, providing hands-on learning opportunities that will be a model for the region and other identical environments worldwide.

Courtland Street Bridge Project Earns ACEC Georgia 2020 Engineering Excellence Grand Award

Congratulations to Michael Baker International for winning the ACEC Georgia 2020 Engineering Excellence Grand Award for the Courtland Street Bridge Project! We were honored to be a part of the team for Surveying and Subsurface Utility Engineering during this incredible project. Preserving the historical aspects of the original bridge while also reducing the construction impact on the local community, the new and improved Courtland Street Bridge serves as a major thoroughfare through the downtown campus of Georgia State University (GSU). Originally built in 1906, the bridge crosses over two Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) tracks, two CSX Railroad tracks, and Decatur Street. Under the original design-bid-build concept, the closure duration for the reconstruction of the bridge would have been at least 18 months but by using design-build and Accelerated Bridge Construction, the total roadway closure time was five months!

Long Engineering named a 2019 “Hot Firm” & “Best Firm to Work For”

We are proud to announce that Long Engineering is again the winner of the Zweig Group’s Hot Firm and Best Firms to Work For Awards, which honors outstanding workplaces at AEC firms. Hot Firms are ranked based on three-year growth in revenue, both by percentage and dollar growth.

This is our tenth year winning the Hot Firm award, and the second consecutive year winning the BFTWF award. LONG placed 42nd among the Hot Firms and 20th BFTWF among firms with 50-99 employees in North America. We scored 27 among the Civil Engineering Discipline.

LONG is being recognized for our ability to inspire our teams to perform at the highest levels. We strive to create an environment where people feel valued, can make a difference, and can clearly see where each employee’s contribution fits in to the overall mission and success of the firm.

Firms were evaluated comprehensively on firm culture, workplace practices, employee benefits, employee retention rates, professional development and more. Consideration was taken into account by both management and staff feedback.
