AWARD for The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design

We are excited to announce that The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design has won the 2022 Chrysalis Award for its category!

The Chrysalis Awards were created to support broadening the conversation between the green building industry and our green community. The awards support and recognize the people and projects within our community that represent the breadth of what sustainability means from a high-performance building to an urban farm feeding a neighborhood, to a material with a low carbon footprint, to a thriving green team within a company.

The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design is a $30M, eco-friendly, structure on 1.44 acres that is integrated into the EcoCommons space on the Georgia Tech campus. This 42,500 SF building is among the greenest in the world for being “net positive” with its use of energy and water. In other words, the Kendeda Building generates more energy and captures more water than it uses.

Lord Aeck Sargent was the architect for this project, and their very own Joshua Gassman accepted the award last night, November 15th. Mike Thurman, Long’s president, was in attendance for the awards ceremony and we certainly appreciate all the hard work and effort involved from all of our Civil Site staff for this project which was led by our VP of Civil Site Design Andrew Pankopp, PE, LEED AP Pankopp.

LONG worked in conjunction with the architect to prepare a site plan that met the goals for the project, as well as providing a wide array of services for this project which included Site Design, Stormwater Management, Permitting, Construction Documents, Construction Period Services, Land Surveying, and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE).

We are very proud to have played a part of this important project and we would like to further congratulate Mike Thurman Aeck Sargent and the rest of the consultants on this amazing achievement!

Hospital Expanasion with LONG

LONG was proud to be a part of the expansion project for the Northside Hospital Cherokee located in Canton, Georgia.
The Hospital added two extra floors onto its existing main patient tower. This expansion provides 53 additional hospital beds while also adding providing extra room for its emergency department and radiology services.
Our team provided complete site design services for this addition. Services included a demolition plan to remove storm drainage, water gas and electric lines, pavements, steps and portions of the existing building. A challenge to this project, besides the limited space for the facility, was the extensive tie-backs into the area from a 20-foot high retaining wall. This limited construction loading and locations for foundations and utilities. Site improvements included a new circular drive, drop off and pedestrian improvements below the tower. New storm drainage piping, water and fire lines were installed to serve the building.
Cherokee County has grown rapidly over the past 15 years and is now the sixth largest county in the Atlanta region. Northside Hospital Cherokee needed to be able to grow in order to adequately serve its community and LONG is happy to have played a pivotal role in that process.

LONG and The Arts

LONG was proud to be a part of the construction of Lawrenceville Performing Arts Center. The Center is a $31 million, 50,000 square foot addition to Lawrenceville’s Aurora Theater.
The Center includes a 500-seat theater with an orchestra pit, a convertible cabaret theater for smaller crowds and additional rehearsal space. The Center is home to Georgia’s second largest professional theater company and has one of the largest stages in the state.
Long Engineering (LONG) prepared demolition plans, a detailed site and grading plan (including improvements for front door drop off on North Clayton Street) and a utility and erosion control plan.
The Center has been open for almost a year now and is home to so many spectacular productions.

LONG World Cup 2026

It’s official: the FIFA World Cup is coming to Atlanta! The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest edition of the world’s most popular sporting event yet and the Mercedes-Benz stadium has been chosen to host.
“Our stadium was built to host world-class events, and we are honored to continue that tradition in 2026 with the World Cup” said Arthur M. Blank, Owner and Chairman of The Blank Family of Businesses, including Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
As Atlanta’s Mayor Andre Dickens put it best, “Atlanta is a soccer town…. And we will welcome folks from all over the world to fill every seat in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2026.”
LONG provided services including Land Surveying, Civil Engineering/Site Design, Utility Coordination & Design, and Construction Staking to the development of the Mercedes-Benz stadium. We are incredibly excited to see one of our projects being used to its fullest potential.
