Northpoint Parkway Streetscapes SUE Services

LONG is proud to be providing the Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services as a member of Columbia Engineering and Services, Inc.‘s team for the North Point Parkway Streetscape Enhancements. This project will span from Mansell Road to Haynes Bridge Road – within the City of Alpharetta, Georgia.

The primary focus of this project is to improve and provide infrastructure that encourages alternative modes of transportation such as walking, bicycling, and use of the existing public transit system. The overarching goal is to reduce traffic congestion while improving mobility within the North Point Retail and Employment District.

We’re happy to play a role in this vision to create a more walkable environment based on a “park once walk everywhere” approach that emphasizes connectivity and green spaces!

LONG Sponsors GA Engineers Conference in Amelia Island

This year, we were happy to be a Gold sponsor for the 2021 Georgia Engineers Summer Conference at the Omni Amelia Island Resort in Amelia Island, Florida. Among the engineering, business and community leaders present, our Senior Vice President, Mike Thurman, and our Vice President of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) & Survey, Sean Byers, were in attendance.

We enjoyed exquisite views, captivating speakers, and positive connections.

This was the first full attendance, in person conference for ACEC members in 2 years! It was wonderful to see everyone and connect in person with our valued clients and partners. Thanks to ACEC’s incredible team for putting together a great conference with a host of top-notch speakers and sessions designed to help guide the next generation of leaders in our industry.

Bridge Replacement Complete in Elbert County

LONG recently completed a bridge project in Elbert County for CR 313/Fork Road at Deep Creek. This project was part of the Low Impact Bridge Program (LIBP) for GDOT. William Bamberg, P.E., one of our transportation engineers, headed this pursuit. Services included replacing the existing structurally deficient posted bridge on CR 313 (Fork Creek Road) over Deep Creek. The existing typical section consisted of two, 7- to 8-foot dirt travel lanes with minimal shoulders and was replaced with two, 9- to 10-foot travel lanes with 4-foot shoulders and rural side ditches. The bridge was replaced along the existing alignment. The new single-span bridge is 60 feet long and 30 feet wide and includes a new guardrail.

New Vac Truck Rounds Out LONG Fleet

LONG is excited to introduce the newest member to our production fleet of vehicles which is our brand-new vacuum truck! This truck allows LONG’s Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) specialists to locate underground utilities swiftly and more precisely.

SUE vacuum trucks use air and/or water to safely uncover buried utilities. Once underground utilities are discovered, SUE professionals can verify their existence, condition and exact location. This enables engineers to plan construction projects that minimally impact utilities, and allows contractors to increase productivity and create safer job sites. LONG provides SUE services throughout the Southeast.

We are excited about this new investment, and we look forward to enhancing our SUE footprint!
