Land Survey Instrument Person

This position is responsible for taking direction from office staff and working in the field to perform field surveys for roadway and bridge projects and topographic, boundary and utility surveys for development projects.  They will ensure the accuracy of field work, perform field calculations, operate and maintain Leica survey equipment, make proper field notes and sketches, ensure the proper maintenance of crew vehicles, adhere to all applicable safety procedures and other duties as necessary to complete complex land surveying projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform field surveys using Leica equipment
  • Prepare complete and accurate sketches of the area surveyed for office use
  • Work as part of a field crew efficiently and accurately
  • Interface with office staff to clearly convey information and assist with quality control
  • Must be detail oriented and document all survey procedures and results
  • Meet specified schedules and budgets

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 years of prior survey field experience with a minimum of 2 years as instrument person
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Knowledge of land surveying principles
  • Commitment to detail and quality of work

 

Other Miscellaneous Requirements:

  • Prefer experience with Leica 2 Second Total Stations, Carlson Data Collectors, Leica GS14 GPS/RTK Receivers, and Leica Sprinter Auto-Levels
  • Ability to work overtime and travel throughout the state of Georgia and Alabama
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs, and stoop, bend and stand throughout the course of up to a 12 hour day in varying terrain
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks within the same day
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with the company’s Safety Manual
