Land Survey Instrument Operator | North Charleston, SC

Atlas Technical Consultants is an infrastructure solutions company with 3500+ employees nationwide. We are currently looking for technically strong and driven individuals to help us grow our expertise within the Southern region out of our North Charleston, South Carolina office.

This position will be responsible for working with and taking direction from supervising Crew Chief and office staff, working in the field to complete various land survey projects in the Low Country area, South Carolina and on occasion projects in the surrounding States. They will have the experience to ensure the accuracy of field work, work as part of a two or three person field crew, perform tasks as directed by Crew Chief, maintain survey equipment, ensure the proper maintenance of crew vehicles, adhere to all applicable safety procedures and other duties as necessary to complete complex land surveying projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Will work primarily in the field on various types of surveying projects such as: control, boundary, topographic, DOT, construction layout and more.
  • Must be experienced in controlling the function of surveying instruments and calculators.
  • Collect survey data as required in accordance with industry and client specifications, scopes of work, and work plans.
  • Drive stakes to set grades on construction projects.

  • This position could require out of town work.
  • The position requires standing and walking all day over varied terrain and in all in seasons (hot and cold weather).
  • Must carry survey equipment (up to 40 pounds) and use tools such as a machete to clear lines.
  • Strong technical and math skills preferred.
  • Previous experience in land survey preferred.
  • On the job training is available.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School graduation or GED preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work effectively with other technical professionals
  • Must be able to write legibly and convey technical information as well as the ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from manager and groups of co-workers.
  • Previous experience preferred but not required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or higher in a survey program or equivalent is a plus.
  • 3 or more years of experience in the role of Survey Technician / Instrument Operator / I-Man.
  • Computer skills with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation (in-Roads or Open Roads Designer (ORD)), and Trimble Business Center Software is a plus.
  • Scanning and 3D Modeling experience is a plus.

 

Technical Requirements:

  • Experience with Trimble Surveying Equipment and data collectors is preferred not required.

 

Other miscellaneous qualities:

  • This position could require out of town work and if so, travel requirements will vary from overnight to a week at a time.
  • Small UAS Part 107 license and drone flight experience are not required but would be considered a plus.
