New Vac Truck Rounds Out LONG Fleet

LONG is excited to introduce the newest member to our production fleet of vehicles which is our brand-new vacuum truck! This truck allows LONG’s Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) specialists to locate underground utilities swiftly and more precisely.

SUE vacuum trucks use air and/or water to safely uncover buried utilities. Once underground utilities are discovered, SUE professionals can verify their existence, condition and exact location. This enables engineers to plan construction projects that minimally impact utilities, and allows contractors to increase productivity and create safer job sites. LONG provides SUE services throughout the Southeast.

We are excited about this new investment, and we look forward to enhancing our SUE footprint!

GDOT Awards Long Statewide On-Call Contract for SUE

LONG was recently awarded a contract to provide statewide on-call subsurface utility engineering (SUE) services for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). LONG will support the GDOT on an “On-Call” basis; this newly awarded contract will remain in effect for three years.

LONG has been providing SUE services throughout the Southeast for the past 5+ years and is considered one of the largest SUE providers in the region, with more than 32 talented SUE staff.

Over the past five years, LONG has successfully worked on more than 300 SUE projects in Georgia, 150 of these SUE projects were directly for GDOT. Our technicians are experienced in utility records research and we staff nine in-house SUE crews that are outfitted with the latest equipment to provide designating, ground penetrating radar (GPR), and test holes. Our crews routinely locate underground utilities including water, gas, power, communication, CATV, fiber optics, fuel lines, force mains, and sanitary sewer lines for various utility companies/providers.

We are excited for the opportunity to lead the Overhead/Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Services for this important statewide GDOT contract, and we are committed to exceeding GDOT’s expectations.

LONG Sponsors at Great Oaks Bank 11th Annual Golf Tournament

LONG was recently honored to serve as an Eagle Sponsor in the 11th Annual Golf Tournament at The Ford Plantation, presented by Great Oaks Bank.

Sean Byers, Our Vice President of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and Survey, represented LONG along with our SUE friends Chris Burke and P. Nathan Brown, RLS with Hussey Gay Bell, and Chris Marsengill, PE, PTOEwith Kimley Horne.

It was a beautiful day on the course. We were happy to offer cold beverage refreshments and jovial conversation to the passing golfers. We also provided fun incentives for our tent guests by giving out a sleeve of LONG blue golf balls for anyone who could hit the green on their first swing, and the Chamber of Commerce offered prizes for those who could hit closest to the hole using a child-sized golf club.

We had a blast!

Kendeda Named One of the Greenest Buildings in the World

It’s official – the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design is one of the greenest buildings in the world!

The Georgia Institute of Technology announced on Earth Day 2021 that The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design earned Living Building Challenge certification, the world’s most ambitious and holistic green building achievement. LONG was proud to provide the civil engineering services on this $30M, eco-friendly project.

The Kendeda Building is among the greenest in the world for being “net positive” with its use of energy and water. In other words, the Kendeda Building generates more energy and captures more water than it uses.

The “Living Building” certification came after a 12-month performance period, where the building generated 225 percent of the energy needed to power all of its electrical systems from solar panels on its roof. It also collected, treated, and infiltrated 15 times the amount of water needed for building functions. It had to meet all seven “petals” in the Living Building Challenge – Place; Water; Energy; Health and Happiness; Materials; Equity and Beauty.

LONG Supports The Tradition

LONG was proud to put on green socks and host 3 teams for The Tradition – St. Paddy’s Day Golf at The Golf Club of Bradshaw Farms.

When you participate in ‘The Tradition’ you help bring awareness to Neurofibromatosis in honor of Jack O’ Brien Burke. Jack is a teen fighting Neurofibromatosis, also referred to as NF. NF is a rare genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves that can result in cancer or heart problems, lead to blindness, loss of hearing, learning disabilities or bone and mobility issues.

Jack is dedicated to fighting for a treatment or cure for NF for all children affected by it. The teen brings awareness to the disorder through Cure NF with Jack, a nonprofit started by Burke and his mother, Beth O’Brien, to fund research for treatment or a cure.

The Burke family and Cure NF with Jack have raised $3 million in private donations as well as through golf tournaments and fun run fundraisers over the last 10 years.

LONG is pleased to support Cure NF with Jack and their mission to find a cure or effective treatment for NF.
