Bridge Replacement Complete in Elbert County

LONG recently completed a bridge project in Elbert County for CR 313/Fork Road at Deep Creek. This project was part of the Low Impact Bridge Program (LIBP) for GDOT. William Bamberg, P.E., one of our transportation engineers, headed this pursuit. Services included replacing the existing structurally deficient posted bridge on CR 313 (Fork Creek Road) over Deep Creek. The existing typical section consisted of two, 7- to 8-foot dirt travel lanes with minimal shoulders and was replaced with two, 9- to 10-foot travel lanes with 4-foot shoulders and rural side ditches. The bridge was replaced along the existing alignment. The new single-span bridge is 60 feet long and 30 feet wide and includes a new guardrail.

Butterworth 15 Year Anniversary

LONG Sponsors at Great Oaks Bank 11th Annual Golf Tournament

LONG was recently honored to serve as an Eagle Sponsor in the 11th Annual Golf Tournament at The Ford Plantation, presented by Great Oaks Bank.

Sean Byers, Our Vice President of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and Survey, represented LONG along with our SUE friends Chris Burke and P. Nathan Brown, RLS with Hussey Gay Bell, and Chris Marsengill, PE, PTOEwith Kimley Horne.

It was a beautiful day on the course. We were happy to offer cold beverage refreshments and jovial conversation to the passing golfers. We also provided fun incentives for our tent guests by giving out a sleeve of LONG blue golf balls for anyone who could hit the green on their first swing, and the Chamber of Commerce offered prizes for those who could hit closest to the hole using a child-sized golf club.

We had a blast!

Kendeda Named One of the Greenest Buildings in the World

It’s official – the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design is one of the greenest buildings in the world!

The Georgia Institute of Technology announced on Earth Day 2021 that The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design earned Living Building Challenge certification, the world’s most ambitious and holistic green building achievement. LONG was proud to provide the civil engineering services on this $30M, eco-friendly project.

The Kendeda Building is among the greenest in the world for being “net positive” with its use of energy and water. In other words, the Kendeda Building generates more energy and captures more water than it uses.

The “Living Building” certification came after a 12-month performance period, where the building generated 225 percent of the energy needed to power all of its electrical systems from solar panels on its roof. It also collected, treated, and infiltrated 15 times the amount of water needed for building functions. It had to meet all seven “petals” in the Living Building Challenge – Place; Water; Energy; Health and Happiness; Materials; Equity and Beauty.
