Flyover of Westside Park at Bellwood Quarry

The $26.5 million Westside Park at Bellwood Quarry project is the largest greenspace in the City of Atlanta. We have been a proud member of Reeves Young’s team, providing the civil design services for this 280-acre park. This project will be transformative for Westside neighborhoods and become the home of a critical 2.4 billion-gallon backup source of drinking water for the city. Park elements include a grand entrance, circulation drives, parking lots, a Grand Lawn, green infrastructure stormwater management, accessible trails, and a spectacular overlook to view the quarry reservoir.

LONG has provided the design of all roadways, grading, and drainage plans as well as sediment, erosion and pollution control plans for Phase 1A of the project that encompassed 20 acres. Phase 1B included the addition of a 166-space parking lot that drains to 6 bioretention ponds and infiltration trenches, a Grand Lawn, a second restroom building, a pavilion and 6,800 feet of accessible trails. LONG is currently entering Phase 1C of the project with the design of an additional mile of trail rim that will go around the top of the Quarry.

Long Celebrates Recent Bobby Jones Golf Course Renovations

The successful grand opening of Boone’s restaurant, located at the newly renovated Bobby Jones Golf Course, took place on September 5. Joe Severin and Shepherd Long, P.E., LEED AP were proud to be there to support the opening on behalf of Long Engineering; the food and atmosphere was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our time spent reconnecting with a few old friends!

Our firm was proud to play a part in the recent Bobby Jones Golf Course renovations. These renovations included a wide range of improvements such as a 9-hole reversible golf course, a structured parking garage with tennis courts on top, a new clubhouse, and a new driving range and practice facility. Long Engineering provided full site design services including stormwater management and NPDES compliance for the entire 144-acre site with close coordination from the City of Atlanta and Georgia EPD for environmentally sensitive areas. Stormwater management measures included a micro-pool stormwater quality feature, bioretention areas, and a rain garden.

With the newly renovated Golf Course and Boone’s restaurant open for business, we encourage you to pay them a visit!

New At-Promise Center breaks ground in South Atlanta

Long Engineering’s president, Joe Severin, PE, LEED AP, joined more than 140 civic and business leaders as they broke ground on the second At-Promise Center, located in Atlanta’s Pittsburgh neighborhood. Attendees included Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, City Council member Joyce Sheperd, Georgia Power’s Bentina Terry, Carter’s Bob Peterson, and Coca-Cola’s Helen Smith Price. They were joined by neighborhood leaders Johnny Floyd and Columbus Ward, nearly a dozen youth enrollees of the Westside At-Promise Center, as well as leaders of the social service agencies who provide services to the At-Promise Centers.

The At-Promise Centers are funded by donations to the Atlanta Police Foundation, which has raised more than $7 million in its current capital campaign focused on the At-Promise initiative. The At-Promise initiative is focused on reducing youth crime by providing customized social services including therapy, counseling, mentoring, tutoring, and enlightenment programs to youth who have been involved in the criminal justice system. At-Promise seeks to divert them to a pathway of productive lives, and away from recidivism.

Long Engineering is proud to have donated our civil engineering design services on this amazing project.

At-Promise Southside is due to open in Q3 2020.  More Information.
