Long Engineering, Inc. certified as a Women's Business Enterprise by WBENC--August 28, 2007

On August 17, Long Engineering, Inc. was certified as a Women's Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). After going through a stringent application process and on-site interview, we were excited to receive this certification and become a part of this great organization. WBENC is the nation's leading third party certifier of WBEs for the private sector. The WBE certification from WBENC is one of many Female-Business Enterprise or Disadvantaged Business Enterprise certifications that Long Engineering, Inc. has from state or municipal organizations.


Long Engineering, Inc. establishes scholarship to benefit women in engineering--August 8, 2007

As a female-owned business, Long Engineering, Inc. understands the importance of supporting women in the engineering industry. Our founder, Ellen Long, knows the difficulties that are often faced as a female engineer. To try and offset these difficulties and support women in engineering, Long Engineering, Inc. established a scholarship at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia to benefit a female student in the engineering field. We hope that this scholarship eases any financial burdens and encourages more young women to pursue engineering as a field where they can be accepted and successful. Long Engineering, Inc. wins National ACEC Engineering Excellence Award--May 8, 2007

Ellen Long, President, and other Long Engineering, Inc. team members traveled to the nation's capital to accept an Honor Award their innovative engineering on Sweetwater Creek State Park Visitor Center. Long Engineering, Inc. won the Georgia Engineering Excellence competition in February, qualifying them for the national competition. Out of over 180 entries, Long Engineering, Inc. was one of only 24 award winners in the national ACEC Engineering Excellence competition. Long Engineering, Inc. is pleased to be recognized for their sustainable, cost-effective engineering solutions.


Long Engineering, Inc. becomes U.S. Green Building Council member--April 18, 2007

Long Engineering, Inc. recognizes the importance of building green buildings and enhancing our environment. Long Engineering, Inc. employee presents at 2007 Greenprints Conference--March 22, 2007

Eric Randall, P.E., Senior Engineer at Long Engineering, Inc., made a presentation at the 2007 Greenprints Conference about green roofs. Eric discussed stormwater and greywater management through green roofs and innovative site design. He was also able to use our award-winning, LEED Platinum project, Sweetwater Creek State Park Visitor Center, and our work at Glenwood Park as prime examples of quality, innovative design. The Greenprints Conference drew over 500 people to discuss sustainable building design.

Long Engineering, Inc.'s innovative design work on Sweetwater Creek State Park Visitor Center was the focus of an article in the February 16-22 Atlanta Business Chronicle. Shepherd Long, P.E., vice president, was interviewed for the article. Shepherd discussed the focus of the project as well as Long Engineering, Inc.'s contribution to the building's sustainability.

Long Engineering, Inc. wins 2007 ACEC-Georgia
Engineering Excellence Award--December 2006

Long Engineering, Inc. won the Grand Award for the Small Projects category for the Sweetwater Creek State Park Visitor Center project. The project was judged on the following criteria:

  • Innovative application of new or existing techniques
  • Future value to the engineering profession
  • Social, economic and sustainable design considerations
  • Complexity
  • How the project met or exceeded the owner’s needs.

Sweetwater Creek State Park Visitor Center was completed and opened to the public in October 2006. Long Engineering, Inc. provided stormwater and wastewater management designs for this project. Nashville Office wins new contracts--November 2007

Long Engineering, Inc.--Nashville is teaming with Gresham Smith & Partners on the Nashville-Davidson County Countywide Signalized Intersection Enhancement Project.

The Nashville Office is also under contract with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to provide transportation planning services on a two-year continuing basis.

LEED® Platinum (NC) Certification--October 2006

Sweetwater Creek State Park Visitor Center earned the U.S. Green Building Council’s highest LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation possible in October 2006, making it one of only 20 buildings in the world and the only building in the Southeast United States with this distinction.
